Dog Catch of the Day -- Obama: More Proof he is not qualified to be elected DogCatcher

President Obama said today that if he sees any wasteful spending by government agencies, he "will call them out."  Well, he can't veto the spending bill anymore.  So he will call them out.  I can't wait to see the mainstream media report this as a "good government" initiative.

On another note, listening to Lou Dobbs' show in the car, I heard a clip of Obama going ever further in ratcheting up the panic/catastrophe angle.  He will not stop until every last person in this country is paralyzed with fear.  I have seen otherwise intelligent people buying into the fear, saying things like this is the worst we've ever seen.  I'm not that old, but I remember the 1970's.  That was really dispiriting, but we muddled through.  And the beginning of Reagan's presidency saw such an uptick in unemployment and interest rates, that I was convinced that Reagan had no idea what he was doing.  Yet Reagan didn't talk down our future.  Things were bleak, but hope emanated from our leaders.  Not this leader, however:  he is Jimmy Carter redux and more (what more I'm not sure).

Hold(er) that Dogcatcher!!! Obama Gives new Meaning to "Permanent Campaign"

If I understood Holder correctly, he wants to get into our private lives.  Perhaps Holder wants to draft some laws or issue regulations which will curtail our freedom to associate as we please.  Of course, this could not be sold as a curtailment of our freedom of association, but rather as the "full realization of that right."  I just cannot seem to get my arms around this, but I can think of no other reason why Holder would speak of how Americans act outside the workplace and on the weekends.  Can anyone help me with this?  Am I getting too paranoid?

On another note, why does Obama need to make every policy proposal a campaign rally?

The end of medicine in America -- We will receive better care from Veterinarians

The latest issue of Forbes contains a story on Cancer Miracles.  If this Administration has its way on healthcare policy, the type of innovations and research seen in this story will disappear, as committees begin to determine what treatments are permitted and who may receive them, based on whatever ghoulish cost-benefit analysis they can come up with.  It's a bit late, but this was on my mind for the past few days and I had to get it off my chest.  Forbes leaves it unsaid -- indeed, the article is strictly about the science.  But the horror in the background is bubbling up all through the story if read by any thinking person.  I think medical innovations will be centered in the veterinary sciences -- after all, everyone loves animals; some love animals more than human beings.this brings new meaning to the dogcatcher series.

Dogcatcher Update: Harry Reid, Disney Genius Dogcatch of the day

I just heard that the highspeed train from Disney to Vegas is in the "stimulus" package.  AND that environmental impact studies will take at least three to five years.  Now this is genius; Harry Reid is a genius.  Not only does he spend money on pork, but he also gets to have government spend more money being tied down by environmental groups.  The environmental groups get to have something to do, their own studies will probably be government-funded.  Conclusions and recommendations of the impact studies will substantially increase the cost of a project that should not be funded by government.  And who knows how many state government compliance jobs this will generate.  Genius.

Truth Commissions

Why get all worked up over whether Congressional Democrats investigate oficials from the Bush administration?  I would rather have Congress spend their time bogged down in subpoenae and committee meetings; let them be distracted.

I disagree with Rush Limbaugh, who said that when the Republicans eventually get back in power, they should spend time investigating Barney Frank and Chris Dodd.  Sorry, but we should not get bogged down in that distraction; our substantive policies are what demand our full attention.  Look at all the time wasted trying to impeach Bill Clinton.

Three cheers for Patrick Leahy, the new Grand Inquisitot.

Dogcatcher Update: Sitmulus -- Dog Catch of the Day

We will never know, because the congressional dogcatchers passed the bill, but I wonder:  Would doing absolutely nothing -- and I'm not even sure what that means, because I am not even sure we needed to "save: the financial system when we created TARP -- but doing absolutely nothing other than the current level of wasteful government spending:  would the economy turn around faster, slower or not at all?  Look, I was an economics major in college, but I don't claim any special expertise.  Yet, is $800 billion enough or too much?  i know bloggers are supposed to be like pundits -- sure of everything they spout -- but I admit my ignorance and my ambivalence.

Dogcatcher Update: Geithner

What passes for policy in the Obama administration:  Put a person on a podium that has some meaningless phrase on it, such as "Financial Stability and Recovery."  There is no further need for discussion.  Funny, I remember a time when the seal of the U.S. or the Treasury Department would suffice for symbolism.  Thankfully,  the "Office of the President Elect" has ceased to function.  Maybe this flies right with their intended audience.  Do they think that investors and anyone else with common sense will fall for this third-rate symbolism?  I am not even sure if that is a rhetorical question.

Question regarding Pronunciation

Does it disturb anyone else that all the radio hosts pronounce the word vase with that long "A" like in the word "pay"?  I learned it with the kind of a similar to "father".  I just find it so annoying.  Even if the dictionary says it's a correct pronunciation choice, I think the choice has been dictated by the advertiser.  Does everyone pronounce it this way?  Does everyone believe that people want or actually must hear it with a long a?

Big Brother is Watching

I am not surprised by the news that our new government will centralize the monitoring of our medical records through the new computerized records requirement contained in the "Stimulus" bill.  But what happens after these dogcatchers are thrown out of office?  Will the Republicans have the nerve to roll back any of this overreaching?

Obama: adventures of our Dogcatcher-in-chief

Obama's early foreign policy -- can wanting to be liked/loved be a foreign policy or the basis of one? -- is reminiscent of the early days of JFK when he met Khruschev (in Vienna?) And was perceived to be clearly out of his depth. What's different is that Obama is seen to be out of hsi depth (Russia, Iran, Arab street, North Korea) and he has yet to meet them. When they meet him, he will be perceived to be out of his depth and naïve to a degree that they cannot even imagine. Also, JFK at least learned some lessons and toughened up -- he did serve in WWII after all. No such toughening is likely from a president barely qualified to be our dogcatcher-in-chief; watch, they will create a federal dogcatcher position. This president believes that apologies, mea culpas, self-demonizations, and good public platitudinal speaking will lead us into an era of improved security. I can only hope that we will all live to regret the election of such a clearly unqualified president. Even Jimmy Carter was more qualified to be president. Hopefully, he will be like carter and only cause us one term of American weakness and misery.

What was Rush trying to say?

Stuck in court here -- yes, another another blogging lawyer is what the world needs-- and trying to figure out something I heard Rush say on the radio yesterday. I thought I heard him say that over 65% of those polled were not happy or even against the stimulus plan. And Rush said that the results showed that people can see that the Democrats are trying to but them off. I love Rush but if people were actually being bought off wouldn't 65% be in favor. Clearly it shows that they haven't put ENOUGH pork in the bill and they haven't succeeded in buying people off. I just think Rush is reading this wrong.

Obama's Qualifications

I think it's beginning to dawn on many Americans that they elected a person who is barely qualified to be dogcatcher.  That used to be a joke, but this time it's the real thing.  And that's scaring the heck out of the people who got caught up in the "hope/change" meaningless speechifying.

SO MANY EXPERTS, SO LITTLE TIME

I just saw NPR report that President Obama has appointed yet another panel of experts.  I should feel positive about this, I guess, since nothing really ever gets accomplished by committees -- and in less than a month this administration has tapped a lot of people to be experts, counselors, performance review specialists.  I don't see how they can get anything done operating with so many different lines of authority.  On the domestic/economic side, that makes me feel good -- the less that can be accomplished, the better.  I don't have a good feeling about how that will work in foreign policy -- in any event, I think Obama will be a disaster in foreign policy.

Obama Finds His Uncle Tom -- Uncle Rahm

Don't you love how the media is now reporting how Rahm Emanuel is an Orthodox Jew?  It seems to me that this was kept pretty low profile throughout the Clinton years and throughout his past six years in Congress.

What's going on here?  Not only has Obama picked a first-class political operative, but he's also found his Uncle Tom for the Jewish community, immunizing himself in advance from criticism about his policies towards Israel.  How could his policies be negative toward Israel with Rahm Emanuel by his side?  Why, even Michael Medved thinks Rahm is reasonable.  I like Medved (and am a Medhead), but maybe he's tacking toward the center in order to immunize himself from the coming fairness doctrine.

The fix is in.  I already predicted a love-in with Iran.  Today's New York Times reports a congratulations letter from Ahmedinejad.  Buried in the Times' story is Iran's wish (threat?) that the U.S. should mind its own business, stick to matters close to home and leave Iran to its on devices.  I have no doubt that Obama will do exactly that.  Now that Uncle Rahm is there to run interference, it's a certainty.

Parahrasing Winston Churchill

You chose Obama and you shall have Osama. Sir Winston would have approved.

1. Gays in the Military. "Don't Ask Don't Tell" is history. Within days of entering office, President Obama will issue an executive order permitting openly gay individuals to serve in the military. The immediate result will be mass resignations throughout the officer corps, dangerously impairing our military preparedness. No need to unilaterally disarm the miltary when we will no longer have a competent command structure. President Obama no doubt will address the nation to decry the "narrow-mindedness" of these "un-american" officers; with the damage done, he will have propose no solution.

2. Israel. Military aid to the Jewish state will be cut. Israel will not receive the most advanced weapons systems it requests; despite congressional approval of these appropriations (even this may be doubtful, given the further leftward lurch of the Democrat-controlled congress), Obama will veto that bill until those systems are excised therefrom. And you thought Obama never met a spending bill he didn't like? Related to this, the Obama administration will increase the use of the language of "restraint," "painful concessions, " "the apsirations of all freedom-loving Palestinians," in all its public pronouncements regarding Israel and the Palestinians, especially after the increase in terror attacks Israel will have to face as a result of U.S. Obama-led condemnation of any military-commando actions taken by Israel to prevent such attacks upon its citizenry. Open recognition and dealings with Hamas in Gaza, as well as direct "humanitarian" aid to Hamas and, in all probability, U.S. aid to Hamas "police" forces are virtual certainties.

3. Iran. It's clear that Obama will make an early trip to Teheran, meeting adoring crowds who will be treated to another campaign speech about change and peace. These staged events will be lapped up by the U.S. media as evidence of Obama's effectiveness in dealing with Iran. No tangible gains will be obtained in any of these meetings other than Iran promising to take the Obama proposals under consideration. This will be spun by the media as major progress. And Israel will pay the price of this media love-in; accused in all the editorial pages as being paranoid, israel will be called upon to make even more concessions in order to stop being a barrier to peace. One can only pray Israel will have leadership strong enough to resist and face down this pressure.

I have had a few days to think this through.  We must not despair.  And I admit I was in despair.  We need to be positive.  To point out wrongheadedness at all times.  To oppose what needs to be opposed.  To support what needs to be supported.  Our sunny attitude will take us further than doom and gloom.
